Future outlook

We were swarmed by the media here a couple of days ago. About now the hysteria has been dampened by the encouraging words of reconciliation by the school’s president – who says he wants to refund students their money. Today some of us that are still here came together at Trey’s house and enjoyed a [...]

The days go by

Nothing much of blogging interest has happened lately. The days go by and my instrument training is progressing. A banner plane fell down the other day and revealed some interesting statistics in the Horry Independent – the local county newspaper. Lucas, Anders and I went to “Kyoto”, the local Japanese ‘fast-food’ outlet, to eat lunch. [...]

Birthday and 17th. of May

On May 7 I turned 23, bringing me yet another year closer to my retirement – as I like to say. It was a quiet day, with a flight and a dinner with friends at Outback Steakhouse – a local Australian-themed restaurant. 10 days later, on May 17, it’s Norway’s Constitution Day – our national [...]

Small delights

Today I had my first Häagen-Dazs ice cream. This American company with roots to old Europe has been going since the early 1920′s and is renown for its quality. To be honest, I did expect more. The ice cream was very good, but at the end of the day, it’s only ice cream.

First Phase 4 flight

The sensation of completion today upon seeing my student folder having been reviewed and the “Phase 3″ section marked as “COMPLETED” was quite satisfying. I’ve been waiting for quite some time for some paperwork to get through the rather heavy machinery of the US bureaucracy. Today I had my first flight in the 4th phase [...]

Charleston Air Expo 2008

Last weekend five of us spontaneously jumped into a car towards the middle of Friday night and drove to Charleston. The occasion was the Charleston Air Expo 2008 air show taking place at the Charleston Air Force Base (AFB), home of the United States Air Mobility Command. We found a relatively nice-priced hotel room at [...]

A note on American living

As I was mixing my drink of ice tea the other day I noticed something quite disturbing. At the bottom of my glass was lying a thick layer of pure sugar. It was somewhat of an awakener. Sugar is in absolutely everything over here – even the milk has added sugar.

Norway

The day finally arrived, and I went home to Norway. Shadab drove me to the airport, I checked in and we said our goodbies before I got in line for the security check. The flight from Myrtle Beach was delayed due to heavy traffic at Newark. We got going about half an hour before the [...]

Going home to Norway

Tomorrow I’ll be getting on a plane at Myrtle Beach and flying home to Norway. I’ll only stay for a week, but hopefully I’ll see much of family and friends during that time. I don’t have much to say as to what’s going on over here. I’ve been waiting to do my long cross country [...]

Easter in the South

Easter turned out pretty well. I got to the Easter Vigil at St. James’s and was picked up afterwards by Anders, who then drove us over to some of the local guys we know. The next day we had Easter dinner with one of them, Daniel, and his family. It was a great day, the [...]
